The Long Table, a social enterprise dedicated to delivering meals to people who need them, has teamed up with Stroud District Council to create 3,000 Christmas dinners over the next three weeks for anyone at risk of going hungry over the festive period, including those self-isolating.
The organisation is using a kitchen at the council-owned Ship Inn in Brimscombe to prepare the meals, supplementing its existing operation at Brimscombe Port, which is full to capacity.
The meals will be made available to the Stroud and District Food Bank, patients in the Longfield Trust and their carers, while churches will distribute meals to those in need within their parishes. Any remaining will be placed in the Long Table’s “Freezers of Love”.
According to Tom Herbert (pictured), founder member of The Long Table, “The additional kitchen at the Ship Inn means we can now create 3,000 Christmas dinners that will be delicious, made from locally sourced ingredients where possible, frozen, then delivered to community projects to bring a Long Table festive sparkle to communities during the pandemic. We hope these meals will bring some comfort and joy this Christmas.”
