Giant advent calendar of children’s to celebrate kindness at Christmas
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) charity, which works to help the estimated 4,300 children living in poverty in the city, has teamed up with two local business and marketing bodies to create a giant advent calendar of children’s art, coinciding with World Kindness Day on 13 November.
Forming part of the town’s Christmas Lights Switch On, the event is staged by NCLB, Cheltenham Business Improvement District (BID) and Marketing Cheltenham. It will use the scaffolding in place at The Queens Hotel, Montpelier, as a screen to project the pictures onto, while art on the Kindness at Christmas theme will be projected onto the hotel in the form of a giant advent calendar.
The images were chosen from work by children from local schools who’ve signed up to the NCLB Community Agreement and children whose work is displayed will also enjoy tea at the hotel, with their families.
“Christmas is all about kindness and this is just the kind of innovative and inclusive thinking that we want to inspire in our community,” says Cllr. Flo Clucas.
Belinda Hunt of Cheltenham BID says, “The Christmas light switch on is one of the key highlights in our calendar and we’re delighted that The Queens Hotel have worked with us and NCLB to offer something different and creative to what has been a very different year.”
