Six Gloucestershire Primary Schools announce closures

Amid national calls by the Labour Party and trades unions to shut primary as well as secondary schools, and widespread concern among teachers and parents about the continued spread of covid, some Gloucestershire primary schools have announced partial closures this morning, 4 January.

Littledean Church of England Primary School in the Forest of Dean wrote to parents saying two classes, Holly Berries and Chestnut Classes, remained closed due to the high number of staff shielding and isolating.

According to Gloucestershire Live, five other schools have announced partial or complete closure. Foxmore Primary School, Stroud, is closed due to staff shortages, while Innsworth Infant School, Gloucester, Fairford Primary School, Fairford, and Oakridge Parochial School, Stroud, are only open for children of key workers and vulnerable children. Gastrells Community Primary School, Stroud, announced the closure of two classes.

Although, on Sunday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson encouraged parents to send primary school children back to school today, many news outlets expect him to announce further covid restrictions as early as today.

If your child’s school is affected by a complete or partial closure, let our editor know – mike.gartside@primarytimes.co.uk - and we will report it here.
