Cheltenham Jazz Festival is to supplement its online events over May Bank Holiday weekend with three nights of live concerts in July (pandemic guidelines allowing). The weekend of free-to-view events streamed on Cheltenham Festivals YouTube channel will be hosted by the festival’s artistic curator, US singer-songwriter Gregory Porter, and BBC 6 Music presenter Cerys Matthews.
The programme promises a mix of established talent including 1960s and ‘70s rock and pop legend Steve Winwood, saxophonist/rapper Soweto Kinch and beat-box supremo SK Shlomo, the latter always a favourite with younger audiences.
Winwood and Porter’s streamed concerts will top the bill on Sat 1 May and Sun 2 May respectively.
“This weekend reflects the breadth that Cheltenham Jazz Festival offers, giving a platform to some fabulous young upcoming artists as well as international stars, and with more exciting announcements to come," says the festival’s head of programming, David Gaydon.
The July line up will be announced in May, promising a selection of leading lights from the UK jazz scene.
