Deadline this Wednesday for free Easter holiday activities and meal kit applications

Gloucestershire Council has secured grants worth £1.5 million to fund a programme of holiday activities and food for schoolchildren eligible for free school meals. Parents entitled to the funded activities this Easter still have until 5pm, Wednesday 24 March to apply to take part.

The scheme aims to reduce the “holiday experience gap” for disadvantaged children whose families are affected by increased costs and reduced income during these periods.

For the first week of the Easter holidays, the council will provide meal kits and fun, learn-to-cook activities for children who receive free school meals (FSM). As in previous holiday schemes, families who are eligible for FSM can apply for a voucher in the second week.

Parents who apply will be provided with a Home Cooking Kit and Activity Pack, which includes step-by-step video tutorials for parents/caregivers and children to cook tasty meals together.

Parents and caregivers will need to apply for the kits using the link below. Vouchers are not being offered for this first week of the Easter Holiday.

The programme will run for six weeks throughout the next year including one week for Easter, four weeks in the summer holidays and one week at Christmas. The council hopes that, as Covid restrictions relax, it will be able to provide more face to face activities in future.
