Stroud Book Festival is planning some fantastic events for children and families on 2–6 November 2022.
Not to be missed is a welcome return for former Children’s Laureate and storyteller extraordinaire, Julia Donaldson, who along with illustrator Lydia Monks, tells the tale of ‘What the Ladybird Heard at Christmas’ (ages 4+).
And Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, space scientist and presenter of BBC’s ‘The Sky at Night’ and ‘Mini Stargazing’ for CBeebies, answers questions from her new book ‘Am I Made of Stardust’ (ages 8+).
Local author Tracey Corderoy will recount the latest exploits of the hapless robber dog duo Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam in ‘Pirates Ahoy!’ (ages 3 to 7). To celebrate the 10th book in the blockbuster ‘Supertato’ series, creators Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet involve children in plenty of Supertato silliness (ages 3 to 6)!
Christopher Edge’s fast-paced adventure ‘Escape Room’ has participants solving challenges to save the world (ages 9+), and award-winning authors Jamila Gavin and Hilary McKay talk about their inspirational new books about World War II, ‘Never Forget You’ and ‘The Swallow’s Flight’ (ages 10+).
Finally, two brilliant workshops: creative writing with author Michelle Harrison in ‘A Pinch of Magic’ (ages 9 to 14), and a “map your local area” workshop with illustrator Alice Melvin based on her book‘Mouse’s Wood’(ages 6 to11).
The festival’s two Schools’ Days for Gloucestershire primary schools feature a wonderful selection of authors, illustrators and poets, too, including John Agard and Lydia Monks.
