Gloucestershire spins out the fundraising for Pudsey
Children at Barnardo’s Nursery in Finlay (pictured) and fitness manager Tom Perry of Everlast Fitness Clubs were just a few of the Gloucestershire people helping to raise money for the BBC’s Children in Need appeal taking place today and this evening. While Tom is carrying out a 15 hour “spinathon” on an exercise bike in his gym, the nursery children were dressed in their best Pudsey outfit, commemorating the day. Last year the charity raised over £39 million on the night, eventually reaching £50,991,355 over the ensuing months. Organisers are hoping to exceed this target this year.
Among the Gloucestershire charities who’ve received support from the appeal in the past are Cheltenham’s Winston’s Wish, one of the UK’s oldest childhood bereavement charities, supporting children, young people, and families since 1992. The BBC Children in Need money has funded specialized bereavement therapy sessions to improve family relationships, increase skills to deal with grief, and improve the ability to cope with loss.
Gloucestershire Young Carers has also received help from the appeal for their regular group sessions for young carers to help them improve their mental health and have greater independence.
A similar program of group therapy sessions is funded at the Gloucester-based charity InfoBuzz that supports children and young people whose parents are facing imprisonment or are imprisoned.
Further information on these charities and BBC Children in Need is available online.
According to the organisers, “BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be.”
