Free fun for Gloucestershire children this Christmas

Applications for free vouchers for £30-worth of school meals close Tue 6 Dec

Drama, science, sports, arts, crafts and Christmas parties are among the activities Gloucestershire County Council has planned to keep children entertained, fed and active over the Christmas break. Under the second of its winter Holiday Activities and Food Programmes (HAF), the council and its partners have organised four days of fun for children between Mon 19 and Thu 22 Dec. Forty-nine organisations are providing these free activities on behalf of the council, although some require registering for a ticket.

The HAF is funded by the Department of Education for families who receive free school meals, but the council can extend the programme to all Gloucestershire families using grant funding. Families that receive free school meals can also apply for £30 vouchers for two weeks of free school meals this festive season. Applications for the vouchers close on Tue 6 Dec. Those already registered are automatically included for vouchers and don’t need to reapply.

Partners working alongside the council include:

- Gloucester: The Venture White City Ltd.

- Cheltenham: Cheltenham Borough Council

- Tewkesbury: Young Gloucestershire

- Stroud: Stroud District Council

            - Cotswolds: Cotswold District Council

            - Forest of Dean: Forest Voluntary Action Forum

Gloucestershire councillor Stephen Davies, says, “Together with our local partners, we have made sure there are plenty of options to choose from so children and young people can have fun, learn, meet new people and enjoy healthy nutritious meals at the same time.”
