High School Leckhampton pupils to enjoy brand new facilities
East Gloucestershire parents and carers have a new school to consider when choosing secondary education for their children as The High School Leckhampton, which opened in September 2021, unveiled its new building this month. The building on Farm Lane promises to be carbon-neutral and includes six science labs, 10 ICT suites, a music suite, a drama studio, a 400-seat auditorium, an Astro-turf pitch, grass playing fields, a sports hall, a fitness suite and six outdoor tennis tables.
The comprehensive school, which caters for up to 900 local children between the ages of 11 and 16 at its new site, is part of the Balcarras Trust which includes the Ofsted rated “Outstanding” Balcarras School in Charlton Kings.
Leckhampton’s head, Helen Wood says, “Good teaching and good facilities are crucial in creating a school that achieves excellent outcomes for every child.”
Pupils in its first Year 7 class had had been studying in temporary facilities until the Farm Lane buildings opened. Gloucestershire County Council approved The High School Leckhampton’s establishment in 2017 to increase the number of secondary places in Cheltenham with funding secured in 2018 and planning permission granted in 2020.
