Tewkesbury stays open during "normal" flooding

Tewkesbury is open for business according to the local council, despite the seemingly dramatic images of flooding in the Gloucestershire town widely publicised this week. Tewkesbury Borough Council has reassured local people and visitors that the current flood waters are part of normal winter flooding in the area and that routes in and out of the town are still accessible.

Councillor Peter Tonge says, “While the images of Tewkesbury Abbey with flooding look dramatic, it can give the impression that the town has been cut off, which just isn’t the case. We need to be supporting our local economy as much as possible so it is really important that we all do what we can to make it very clear to the public and businesses that they are able to access the town – and that it really is business as usual.”
