FIRST NEWS GIVES CHILDREN THE CHANCE TO HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD ON CLIMATE CHANGE AT DOWNING STREET

First News is looking for children who are passionate about climate change, to attend a special conference at Downing Street for Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to hear their views.

The First News Young UK Climate Challenge is being launched for children to share their opinions, questions and solutions on this important topic, ahead of the United Nations Climate Conference in Glasgow (COP26) next month.

First News, in partnership with JPIMedia, has the exciting opportunity is invite some children (up to the age of 16) with a keen interest in climate change to the exclusive Downing Street event. This will give them a chance to have their voices directly heard on an issue that will fundamentally affect their future lives.

Any child interested in attending should submit a question they would like to ask or an idea they would like to put forward via First News’ website: www.first.news/younguk. Both video and written submissions are welcome.

With COP26 starting on 1 November, First News is urging children to submit their questions, thoughts and ideas as soon as possible.

Nicky Cox MBE, Editor of First News, says: “Children are extremely well tuned into the issue of climate change, recognising it as one of the biggest problems facing their generation. For many, this is very worrying as they know that our leaders’ actions today will determine their future.

“It is therefore vital that children are given a voice and able to share their views with the people making the decisions – something that First News is committed to. Children have great ideas, solutions and insight, often seeing things from a very different perspective to adults so we are delighted that Downing Street is hosting this special press conference, exclusively for children.

“I would urge schools, parents and children themselves to send in their video or written submission ASAP to get their chance to tell World Leaders what they think, ahead of the UN Climate Conference in Glasgow – giving them a chance to truly make a difference’.

The United Nations Climate Conference (COP26) will be taking place in Glasgow from November 1. It will bring together heads of state, climate experts and campaigners to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change. As COP26 Presidency, the UK has been working nationally and with countries around the world to inspire action ahead of the conference – including this special child-focused event.
