Summer Tales & Trails at the Mall Luton

This summer, The Mall Luton will be hosting a festival of story-based fun with their Summer Tales & Trails, running throughout the school holidays. Bringing a packed schedule of book-based fun to the centre, kids will be able to meet book characters and find iconic props from well-known stories through the selfie trail.

On Monday 25th July, the Summer Reading Garden will open on Church Street. All the books at the Summer Reading Garden are provided by Luton Libraries, who are running Gadgeteers Summer Reading Challenge 2022, which is produced by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with libraries. The Summer Reading Challenge takes place in local libraries every year during the summer holidays. Children can read any books of their choice to collect special stickers and other rewards – all for FREE. Every Thursday from 28th July, meet and greet sessions with classic children’s book characters will take place for fans to grab a selfie.

28th July - Paddington Bear

4th August - The Gruffalo

11th August - Peter Rabbit

18th August - Diary of a Wimpy Kid

25th August - The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Paddington Bear, Peter Rabbit and The Very Hungry Caterpillar will also host storytelling sessions during their visits, for visitors to hear classic tales from the stars of the stories. Meet and greets are at intervals between 11am and 4pm.

The centre also have a writing competition running through the summer, offering one child the chance to win £250 plus £500 worth of books for their school. Stories and poems are invited based around the writer’s favourite book character or adventure – as creative as can be! What might you find stepping through the wardrobe? What would your wizarding powers be? What would’ve happened if the caterpillar hadn’t been so hungry? It’s all in the imagination…..

Entries can be written as a summer holiday home activity, or at the Reading Garden in the centre. There will be a helper at the garden on Mondays from 11am – 4pm to assist children with ideas for their entry if a helping hand is needed. The selfie trail with scenes from classic tales around the centre through the summer will also help bring their ideas to life.
