Meet the Team at Kip McGrath

The staff at Kip McGrath Carlisle are passionate about helping everyone to achieve their potential in English and Maths. Here is a summary of their key specialisms:

Carly Johnston is the Centre Owner and an experienced primary and secondary teacher for both subjects; secondary maths and 11+ specialist and a qualified Dyslexia screener;

Sarah Birchall is the Centre Manager and skilled primary and secondary teacher for both subjects; 11+ specialist and a qualified Dyslexia screener; and

Georgie Robinson is a primary and early reading specialist with years of experience in local primary schools.

We recently met with them to find out a little more about what they do.

Carly Johnston – Re-training to be a teacher was the best decision I ever made! I completed my PGCE in 2013 and my NQT year in 2014. Since then, I have worked in local primary schools, secondary schools, and Carlisle College. Alongside full-time work I started to work for Kip Carlisle in 2017. In 2019 the previous owner retired, and I jumped at the chance to buy the franchise. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength. Starting with around 30 lessons per week to now teaching 200 plus lessons with three members of staff.

I love working for Kip as the students are so keen to develop their skills and I get the opportunity to support them in doing this. All our staff are so committed to our students, and we are a close-knit team who all play to our strengths.

Sarah Carroll – I trained to become a teacher as I wanted to make a difference and be able to help people who really struggle with learning. There is truly nothing better than seeing that ‘lightbulb’ moment of recognition in a student and the joy it brings!

I joined the Kip McGrath Carlisle team in 2019 and have loved every minute! Being a tutor allows me to have a rewarding and interesting job, as two days are never the same. I also get to work with a huge array of people who all have their own story to tell. Being a tutor for Kip McGrath has pushed me to be the very best I can be, and when you work with students from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4 – you have to be!

Georgie Robinson – I completed my PGCE in Primary Education in 2016, and I have worked in several local schools ever since. I have worked with children of all ages, and I also have experience working with children who have a range of additional needs.

As the world re-opened in March 2021, alongside my full-time work in school, I joined the Kip McGrath Carlisle team. I work with a fabulous team of tutors, each with our own area of expertise. I love working with children and young people of all ages and enjoy seeing them progress, develop their skills and achieve their best. Whether that be early reading and number skills, to completing GCSEs!
