New volunteers needed!

From energetic volunteers to enthusiastic local schools and communities, Cumbrian river conservation charity, Eden Rivers Trust (ERT) relies on the incredible efforts of local people who care about the environment, conservation and everything that makes the area so special.

Their volunteers come from all walks of life and contribute in a range of ways. Practical tasks carried out by volunteers include tree-planting, seed sowing, fish rescues, wildlife surveys, Himalayan ‘balsam-bashing’ and litter-picking.

As well as regular weekday volunteer work parties, once a month they run events at the weekend that the whole family can take part in. Look out for the next community day taking place near you by visiting the Things to Do page on ERT’s website.

The Trust has recently embarked on a brand new venture, establishing the Eden Community Tree Nursery in the heart of Penrith. Thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Eden District Council, the nursery will open a doorway to conservation, where local people, volunteers and community groups can learn about trees and the river and work together to grow and nurture trees from locally sourced seeds. Over time, the trees grown here will be planted around the Eden catchment on the Trust’s river conservation project sites.

Get involved today!

Sign up for one of ERT’s volunteer or community events and help out with practical tasks to prepare the site so that it is accessible for all and plant/care for seeds (no experience necessary!)
