Mr Boom casually drops in nuggets of clever information to make the kids think and shout out answers - like all the things that are made of water (including ourselves), how many times have you been round the sun and all the planets in the solar system - even if it is unlikely that one has a polar bear. Mr Boom!
A few days ago, Lottie (aged 4 1/2) asked : Is Mr Boom really from the Moon, or is he just joking? I replied - From the Moon, of course - but he likes to use his imagination too.
Lottie and her twin Rose, have been fans of Mr Boom for a few years, so, we were delighted that once again, Mr Boom came back from the Moon. He sang some jolly songs, told some silly jokes and gave us all a chance to sing and dance in the beautiful venue that is the Spiegeltent at St Andrews Square; a perfect venue for the kids to spin around in circles with a nice clear dance area.
Mr Boom, a classic children's entertainer, has (by his own admission) been entertaining children for many moons. He almost instantly captivates his young audience when he arrives with his 'One Man Band' and his nose which goes 'beep'. Very quickly a gaggle of children were sitting at his feet joining in swinging hands together, clapping like a crocodile and swimming on the floor.
He also casually drops in nuggets of clever information to make the kids think and shout out answers - like all the things that are made of water (including ourselves), how many times have you been round the sun and all the planets in the solar system - even if it is unlikely that one has a polar bear. But the show really comes alive when the kids get to join in the dances. Brandon, aged 2, loved being a plane and a train in the song 'Let's go to the airport'. Hana, aged 8 liked the songs best where she could dance in the centre. Lottie and Rose love the 'Pixie dance' best as they say: 'it's our favourite as we like the song and dancing round the pixie tree'. Recommended for pre-schoolers in particular.
