A girl of good taste, Hailey (age 7) has two favourite films - 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Star Wars'. So as Darth Vader would say "it is your destiny" that this Fringe Show should be seen. Hailey hadn't done any interactive theatre before so wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm glad to report it ticked all the right boxes. The scenery was minimalist but the lighting was excellent and the costume changes must have been done at 'light speed'.
The amount of interaction was incredible: from blowing bubbles, helping the characters work out the secret code, taking part on stage to the all important lightsaber battle at the end. "Hold on mummy!" was her quote as we all leapt to our feet light sabers in hands. It's hard to think of any other theatre I've been in where you get to learn Jedi lightsaber moves.
Hailey loved all the characters, and found it hard to believe there were only three actors in the production as there was so much going on at such a frantic pace. She insisted that "this Dorothy is WAY better than the other one in the film" and loved how the two stories wove together. How the actors memorised all the technical lines I'll never know, but suffice to say the content had this mum and daughter absolutely enthralled.
