We all left thinking what we’d grow, and thinking what a charming and magical hour we’d just spent in Mrs Pardon’s company. Hope she’s here next year.
Excuse Me Mrs Pardon Review
This show for the under fives is ‘Lovely’ (as Mrs Pardon would say). It’s an imaginative story about Mrs Pardon and her garden. She’s a quickly loveable main character whose friend (a puppet) explains how she grows improbable items in her garden.
Lara (4) and Douglas (a boisterous 2.5) and an audience of two, three and four year olds, sat glued to Mrs Pardon’s every move, which for a 55 minute show gives you a clue as to how engaging the performance is. The children have frequent opportunities to join in with moves to do and things to say, and there are plenty of inventive props (like hanging jelly plants!). Lara(4) said “I liked the wellie plants the best, although they weren’t real, they were only pretend.’ Knowing whether something is real or pretend was a part of the show, so she was definitely taking it all in.
Mrs Pardon asks all the children at the end to; “Use your imagination.” and imagine what you’d grow in your garden if you could grow anything, one boy said “tractors”, Lara said “cake”. We all left thinking what we’d grow, and thinking what a charming and magical hour we’d just spent in Mrs Pardon’s company. Hope she’s here next year.
