The Princess and the Pea Reader's Review

The Princess and the Pea

Plenty of Princesses, 'trumping' humour and moral messages, told by a talented group of actors.  They were friendly and chatted with the audience before it started, doing their warm ups and finishing the show set up (of course, this was all part of the show, not that my 5 year old and 2 year old girls realised this!).  The story then started, and flowed well as the various actors picked up the tale of the young Prince looking for his Princess, whom his mother determined must feel the pea under the many, many, many mattressess...

Where the story deviates is the appearance of some well known characters.  Look out for Sleeping Beauty and Snow White amongst others.  Prince Charming was far from charming, and his lines landed a wee bit above my companions' heads, but older children would appreciate his humour.

There were moral messages aplenty, and young princesses (and princes) will realise that it's what's on the inside that counts.  With a happily ever after ending, the cast then seemlessly move back to where we started and are amongst friends, then the cast disperse from the audience.

All in all it was an easy production to watch, showcasing raw talent without the need for elaborate costumes and scenery.
