Shakespeare in the Garden: Romantic Romeo Reader's Review

Shakespeare in the Garden: Romantic Romeo

To say my boys were sceptical about seeing a show with 'romantic' in the title is an understatement. They sought reassurance. Will there be baddies? Yes. Fighting? Yes. Phew. I'm so glad they got beyond the title and watched the play because it was fantastic. There was a good measure of fighting and 'bad' characters (a particularly good take on Paris) but there was also humour, singing, drama, action and yes... romance. The young company's contemporary interpretation of Shakespeare made it accessible, enjoyable and entertaining. Dan, my youngest, urged Romeo not to take the poison, "She's not dead really". Charlie, my seven year old, believed, "I could beat Paris in a fight". They were engaged and involved, I was amused and entertained. Good fun all round with an insight into the works of the Baird thrown in. Go and see it.

Suitable for ages 7 and above
