The Hand-in-Hand Art Troupe dance performance at the Acoustic Music Centre at St Bride’s today was breathtakingly beautiful, and should have been staged at Usher Hall where it would have attracted a much larger audience. The small and privileged audience was delighted with over an hour of exquisite dance performances and music from the extraordinarily talented youth dance troupe from the Shanghai Youth Center in China.
The costumes were masterfully designed and the dancing professional. The two young girls who presented the show and provided a brief introduction to each performance spoke clearly in both Chinese and in English. We were also treated to a soloist singing ‘Hey Jude’ and a solo traditional instrumental performance.
My six year old son was able to participate in learning the traditional ‘circle fan’ dance, and afterwards each participant was given a red silk bag containing a red Chinese knot tassel for good luck, with which he was thrilled.
The Hand-in-Hand Art Troupe participate and perform internationally in competitions and art exchanges, and are the recipients of many international awards. It was a delight to be able to watch each one of the colourful performances, and my only regret is that it was a one-off event, so we cannot encourage others to see the show! We would very highly recommend it.
