Primary Times Children's Choice Awards review of Circa: Humans
Our Primary Times' review:
‘Wow!’ (This is the one word, Charlotte, aged 8, leaned over and scribbled on my pad as one of the acrobats somersaulted flying almost past our ears).
There are many talented circus shows around, but this one showcases the incredible talent of these performers, using just their human bodies and the interactions between them. This is a thrilling spectacle of a show, which is dramatic, fun, moody and eerily balletic in places.
The show starts with a number of individuals undressing down to their show costumes (skin coloured shorts and mesh shirts). Then, it seems that under a pile of coats, one of the circus ladies is going to have to escape, Houdini-like from the restraint of ordinary clothes. The performers are very bendy as you might expect, but even they can’t achieve everything – to much hilarity from the audience. This was one of the favourite parts of the show for my twins, Rose and Charlotte (aged 8). But I won’t give it away!
There are a number of other spectacles, like the rag-doll performer who seems to be almost entirely controlled by one of her colleagues. There was also an extraordinary performance of hop-scotch, where each acrobat leaps over the others with increasingly dramatic effects.
This is a show that amazes and astounds with every twist and turn and is recommended for all the family. (The group suggest that this show is suitable from 8+, although there were children younger than that in the audience who were clearly enjoying the show.)
Our young reviewer says:
"This is an amazing show. I don't know how they did that!" (Rosie, aged 8)
