The National Wallace Monument celebrates the Battle of Stirling Bridge Anniversary

The National Wallace Monument, in Stirling, is set to mark the 719th anniversary of the Battle of Stirling Bridge by releasing short online films and hosting a weekend of activities around the memorable battle on 11th September 1297.

A Hero in the Making and William Wallace Preparing for Battle will be released online, available on Facebook and YouTube, during the weekend of the 10th and 11th of September at the same time as live actor performances at the National Wallace Monument will bring to life the main events of the battle.

Overlooking the site of the Battle of Stirling Bridge, the National Wallace Monument has a weekend of activities planned to entertain the whole family including weapons demonstrations, dress-up costumes, face painting, Braveheart Bear, falconry display (Saturday 10th only) and archery (Sunday 11th only).

Speaking about the event Ken Thomson, Marketing Director at Stirling District Tourism, the not-for profit organisation that runs the National Wallace Monument said: "We have lots of great activities for children planned, allowing them to learn more about the infamous battle in a fun environment. They can discover how to be a medieval warrior by trying on costumes and see the weapons that medieval soldiers would have used during their visit.

"For those who cannot attend on the weekend itself we wanted to create these two short films that tell a little bit of the Wallace story, and we hope it inspires them to make the trip to the Monument to find out more."

Alongside the special weekend activities, visitors can also explore the magnificent Monument itself where Wallace's life and legacy is told in three galleries, one of which features his legendary battle sword. An impressive 246 steps can be climbed to reach the top of the Monument, to the Crown where breathtaking 360-degree view of central Scotland and the Highlands to the north.

The National Wallace Monument is offering 20% off admission prices across the weekend, available on tickets booked in advance online or purchased on arrival at the Monument.
