Brompton Bikes roll into Pershore Station with solar-powered dock
Brompton Bikes have officially arrived at Pershore Train Station, bringing a new era of sustainable travel to the town.
An eight-bike, solar-powered dock has been installed on Wychavon-owned land at the entrance to Wilmots Business Park, directly opposite the station exit, giving residents and commuters a fresh, flexible way to get around.
The scheme is part of Wychavon’s ambitious Active Travel Action Plan, which focuses on making every day journeys healthier, greener, and easier. The foldable Brompton bikes can be hired for just £5 a day via the Brompton Hire app, collected directly from the station's dock, and returned there after use. This ensures bikes are always available for the next rider and keeps the system neat and reliable. Users should also ensure they download the Brompton Hire app and verify their ID before hiring a bike. Accepted forms of ID include a valid passport, driving licence, or other government-issued photo identification. More details are available at www.bromptonhire.com. Clear instructions on folding and unfolding the bikes are displayed on the lockers at the dock, making them easy to use even for first-time riders.
Pershore Train Station is located over 1.5km from the town centre, and the new Brompton Dock provides the perfect link between the two. Commuters stepping off the train can now cycle straight into work, while residents heading into town for shopping or leisure can enjoy a quicker, more convenient, and enjoyable journey. Thanks to the dedicated cycle lane along Station Road, the route is both safe and sustainable.
The installation also highlights Wychavon’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. By investing in solar-powered infrastructure and promoting active travel, the council is helping reduce reliance on cars, cut emissions, and encourage healthier lifestyles.
Cllr Beverley Hardman, Executive Board Member for Environment at Wychavon, said: “It’s fantastic to see Brompton Bikes now available at Pershore Station. This is a real step forward for active travel in our district, giving people a practical and sustainable way to connect the station with the town centre. I’m excited to see residents and commuters making the most of this brilliant new option, and I’m proud of the teamwork that has brought this project to life.”
