A group from Primary Times went off to JRC Global Buffet, Croydon (in Valley Leisure Park off Purley Way). It’s an enormous but certainly not soul-less restaurant able to seat up to 800 guests at a time. Busy staff buzzed around clearing away plates and keeping everyone happy. For a fixed price (currently £15.95 for adults and £8.95 for children over 90 cms – under 90cms free), you get to try food from all the stations mixing and matching to your heart’s content and going back as many times as you like.
JRC have a fabulous array of cuisines from around the world – Chinese, Thai, Indian, Japanese, authentic Italian pizza, Spanish paella, and traditional English Carvery to name but a few with further positions offering freshly grilled meats and succulent seafood. Everything was kept fresh and hot and topped up on a regular basis. We discovered that each national food station is created by chefs from that region. Not only must the kitchen be massive, it must be pretty confusing in there too but it does go a long way to explaining why it’s all so authentic and tasty. There are plans to introduce even more choice with a new Brazilian barbeque and from next month, soft drinks from a soda fountain will also be included in the price.
Make sure you leave at least a small space for desert as there is almost as wide a selection of yummy puddings as there is of mains – great dishes of puddings and exquisite, delicate, little desert bites all created in their own kitchen and individual little jellies in a myriad of flavours. You could opt for fresh fruit with or without dipping it in one of the two (brown or white) chocolate fountains or visit the extensive sweetie bar to eat on their own or to top your plate of ice cream.
