Connect to Work: Supporting Parents, Guardians and Carers into Employment
Balancing family and caring responsibilities with work can be challenging. Many parents, guardians and carers reduce their hours, pause their careers or leave employment altogether to support their children or loved ones. Yet employment can provide financial security, confidence, independence and valuable social connections.
That's where Connect to Work can help.
Connect to Work is a free, voluntary supported employment programme designed to help people facing barriers to work find and sustain meaningful employment. Step2Skills delivers the programme in Hertfordshire and recognises that parenting, guardianship and caring responsibilities can be significant barriers to employment.
Participants work with a dedicated Employment Advisor who provides personalised support, including:
• Identifying jobs that fit around family and caring responsibilities
• Building confidence after time away from work
• CV writing and interview preparation
• Training and skills development opportunities
• Help accessing local employers
• Advice on flexible working and workplace adjustments
• Ongoing support after securing employment
Parents, guardians and carers often develop valuable transferable skills, including organisation, communication, resilience and problem-solving. The Connect to Work programme helps people to recognise these strengths and use them to move into sustainable employment.
