Wraparound Childcare Programme

The Government has committed funding to support an increase in wraparound childcare for parents and carers of primary school-aged children. Many schools began expanding or creating new wraparound places from September 2024.

Wraparound childcare takes place before and after school and wraps around the school day. It typically runs from 8am until 6pm (hours can change depending on local demand) during term time, either on a school site or another local setting, such as an early years and childcare provider that offers care to school-aged children after school, or with a childminder.

The Education People, in partnership with Kent County Council, is working with schools and childcare providers to increase the number of wraparound childcare places in Kent.

Wraparound childcare is aimed at working parents or for parents who are studying or training for employment but is accessible to all parents who need it.

Currently parents and carers are required to pay for before and after school childcare, however if eligible, they can use Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit Childcare to pay for this.
