Diagrama Fostering

"My name is Ellie and for a long time I didn’t know what 'home' was supposed to feel like.

"Then I moved in with my foster carers. At first, I was nervous. I thought it would be just another stop. But this time was different. They had made my bedroom ready for when I arrived, with posters on the wall and a duvet in my favourite colour. They asked me what I liked to eat. They came to my school assembly. They listened.

"Now I have a place at the dinner table that’s always mine. We watch films together on Fridays and they cheer for me from the sidelines at sports day. I don’t feel like a visitor anymore, I feel like I belong.

"I feel safe, I’m doing better at school and I can think about my future instead of just getting through the day. My foster carers are supported by Diagrama Fostering, which is a not-for-profit agency. That means it’s all about helping children like me, not making money. They also offer 24-hour support, so my carers are never on their own if they need advice or someone to talk to. That support helps them feel confident and supported, which helps me too.

"There are still lots of children waiting for a safe and loving home. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, maybe you could be the person who changes a child’s story. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to care. Just like someone cared about me."
