Fydell House’s Georgian Day – ‘Stars In Their Eyes’
New event celebrates Boston’s Georgian heritage and transports visitors to the past.
Join us to celebrate Fydell House in its Georgian heyday!
The Fydell family have been on their travels but are on their way back to Boston. As a prominent local family they will expect everything to be just right, and Mrs. Frost, the housekeeper, has been tasked with finding some Bostonians to help get the house sorted out. A theatre company is visiting Boston, and one of the actresses, Miss. Kitty Wakelin has been sent out to drum up an audience. Perhaps you have ‘got what it takes’ to make a go of it as an actor - Kitty is always on the lookout for new talent. Do you have stars in your eyes?!
Our performers will bring Fydell House to life with this window into the world of Boston in the 1760’s!
Fydell House will host its first Georgian Day on Saturday 13th May from 10:30am-15:30pm, with free entry throughout the day.
With the help of Time Will Tell Theatre performers, visitors will be transported to the Georgian period, when Fydell House was a bustling merchant’s home, and come face to face with figures from Fydell’s past. Chat with the Fydell’s gossiping housekeeper, keep out of the way of busy servants or be dazzled by a star of the Georgian stage!
This is a great event for families and history lovers, with plenty of activities for children including designing your own delft tile and making Georgian paper theatres. Families can even follow our new activity trail, led by Fydell House’s resident Georgian mouse – Sir Philip Squeakaton or Pip Squeak to his friends!
Fydell House’s café will also be open to visitors – sit in our 18th century inspired garden with a cup of tea and pretend you’re a Georgian noble!
Our project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Architectural Heritage Fund and Medlock Trust. Our project would not be possible without the millions of people who purchase lottery tickets.
