22nd January 2025

Time: 5pm
Address: Herschel Building Newcastle University. NE1 7RY

Website: www.ncl.ac.uk/events/public-lectures/childrenslectures/#2025holmesmemoriallectures

The Holmes Memorial Lectures are designed for children aged 10 to 14 with the intention of fostering an interest in science. The 2025 Holmes Lectures will be given by researchers from Newcastle University’s School of Engineering. In this lecture, we explore the term ‘water security’ and why it’s so important. Sustainable Development Goal 6 declares the importance of achieving "clean water and sanitation for all", but there is often too much, too little or it is too dirty. You’ll learn how engineers need to work with other experts to solve problems like floods and water shortages and how these solutions are making a difference in the UK and around the world.
