CBBC explores the world of Ice Stars

CBBC announces a new 10-part documentary series Ice Stars which follows the action-packed life, on and off the ice, of a group of determined young skaters.

Made by production company Drummer TV (School For Stars and My Life), Ice Stars will capture the highs and lows for our young skaters as they juggle home, school and friendships with a life on the ice, striving to be the best in a sport they love. The series will explore the world of skating from first timers to future Olympians and discover that, whether it’s ice hockey or synchro, figure or speed skating, dance or jumps, it is a competitive world that requires dedication and sacrifices not just for the skaters themselves but often for the whole family.

The series has been commissioned by Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC, and the Executive Producer is Kez Margrie, who says: “The passion and commitment of these young people is remarkable. Going behind the scenes at the ice rink opens up a whole new world of hard training with highs and lows, which pushes their dedication to the limit and forges strong friendships.”

Tamsin Summers from Drummer TV says: “We’ll be up-close, capturing the emotions of the skaters we get to know before, during and after performances. They may leave home at 5am to practice in the rink before school, but outside the rink they are normal young people, dealing with the same day-to-day challenges as their non-skating mates.”

The series is being filmed on location at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham until May. Ice Stars is being made for CBBC by Drummer TV, the executive producer for CBBC is Kez Margrie and the executive producer for Drummer TV is Tamsin Summers. The series is being directed by Steve Crowhurst and is a 10x30min commission. Ice Stars will be shown on CBBC later in the year.
