Hank Zipzer returns for second series

Children’s comedy drama Hank Zipzer returns to TV screens this summer with the second series due to air on CBBC in August. Following on from the huge success of the first series, which launched at the beginning of 2014, the show has also been commissioned for a third series which is currently in production in Yorkshire.

The TV show is based on the New York Times best-selling book series, Hank Zipzer: The World's Greatest Underachiever, which is co-written by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver and published by Walker Books. Inspired by Henry’s own experiences as a child, the television series follows 14 year old Hank Zipzer, a smart and resourceful boy with dyslexia. Hank sees himself differently to the way the world sees him, so when problems arise he deals with them in a way no-one else would – putting him on a direct collision course with his teachers, Mr Love (played by Nick Mohammed) and Miss Adolf (played by Felicity Montagu), and his parents, Rosa (played by Juliet Cowan) and Stan (played by Neil Fitzmaurice). With the help of his best friends Frankie and Ashley, the young boy with a big heart goes on a multitude of mischievous adventures, but often ends up learning a valuable lesson or two along the way. Series two sees the arrival of new head teacher Mr Joy, who joins the school when former head Mr Love takes a sabbatical. Aloof and high-handed, it doesn’t look like Hank’s life at school is going to get any easier....

‘The Fonz’ star Henry Winkler will return to play the popular music teacher, Mr Rock, the only teacher who seems to understand Hank, and British comedian and actor Javone Prince, known for his role as Jerwayne in PhoneShop, and currently appearing in The Javone Prince Show on BBC Two, joins the cast to play the role of new head teacher Mr Joy.

Hank Zizper series two was commissioned by Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC, and executive produced by Sue Nott of CBBC, and Anne Brogan of Kindle Entertainment. The series is produced by Kindle Entertainment in association with DHX Media and Walker Productions, supported by Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund. The series will consist of 13x30 minute episodes airing on CBBC this August 2015
