The UK’s unmissable free film education event returns - 6th Into Film Festival, 7-23 November
The world’s largest youth film festival returns to screens across the UK this Autumn, taking place from 7th to 23rd November with over 3,000 free screenings and special events in 600 venues across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Now in its sixth phenomenally successful year, having welcomed 485,000 5-19 year old students and their teachers in 2017, the 2018 edition promises to be more exciting than ever.
“I still can’t believe such a stunning resource was made available to us. Next year, I plan to make more use of the Festival and provide access for more learners in our school community”. Teacher, Into Film Festival 2017
“My students want more, they want to go to the cinema more, they’re buzzing! Job done, mission accomplished!” Teacher, Into Film Festival 2017
Hosted by film education charity, Into Film, which engages with over half of UK schools, the annual Into Film Festival is free to all students and their educators and supports education through a carefully curated programme of films and events suitable for Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form students with topical themes, resources, debates, special events and careers activity. The Festival uses the power and magic of film - from exclusive preview screenings of new blockbusters to popular classics - to engage young minds in a broad range of topics from foreign language films, documentaries, animation, classics and hidden gems from the archive, all mapped against curricula from across the four nations and regions.
This year’s festival is programmed with six themes in mind to help teachers navigate the 2018 edition:
Mental Wellbeing: Moving Minds
This is our wellbeing strand that aims to open-up discussion around young people’s mental health.
Year of the Woman: Empowered Voices.
Titles in this strand are ‘F’ rated – this standard refers only to films that have either been directed or written by a woman, or in some cases both. If the films feature strong female characters at the centre, they are considered to represent the gold standard of the F-rating.
Visions of Europe
Celebrating our relationship with continental Europe, their respective film industries and film culture, with key titles from the past and present. This strand will also include British content.
Saving the World: Eco Warriors, Superheroes and Revolutionaries.
From environmental issues to superheroes, international politics and dystopian futures, saving the world is never straightforward.
Anim 18 Connections: An Animated World.
In support of the BFI’s FAN-led (Film Audience Network) year-long celebration of British animation – Anim18. This strand will feature new and archive animated content from across the globe. The sixth festival theme will be announced in July and will be part-curated by Into Film’s Youth Advisory Council (YACs) comprised of a nationwide group of young people aged 10-18.
Festival screenings and special events get booked up very fast. Priority bookings go live on September 4th to all those with an Into Film Club and general bookings go live on September 5th.
