Free fruit trees for schools from The Conservation Volunteer
This year, with the support of ICAP, The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) are launching ‘From the Ground Up’ - a free fruit tree pack programme for primary schools across the UK!
There are 500 free fruit tree packs available – each pack of 4 fruit trees is capable of creating your very own mini fruit orchard in your school.
If you are a primary school in the UK, you can order one of the free fruit tree packs containing:
• 2 x apple
• 2 x pear
All fruit trees are grown in the UK and will be dispatched between the 14th – 18th March 2022 ready for you to plant and will come with full planting instructions.
There will be a mix of apple and pear varieties:
• Apple – Ellison’s Orange, Laxton’s Fortune, James Grieve, Worcester Pearmain, Greensleeves, Lord Lambourne, Sunset, Egremont Russet, Cox’s Orange Pippin , Fiesta, Pixie, Laxton’s Superb, Gala.
• Pear varieties; Williams’ Bon Chrétien, Beurré Hardy, Concorde, Conference
This year, every single tree will be registered to The Queens Green Canopy so not only will you create your very own mini orchard – your school will also be part of the incredible Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.
Environmental and educational benefits
The Conservation Volunteers would love to see more trees in schools as they provide a multitude of environmental and educational benefits, both short and long term. As well as being attractive aesthetically, they remove and store carbon from the atmosphere, enhance air quality and provide shade – all of which are beneficial for children, the environment, and wildlife.
Douglas Palarm, TCV Director of Partnerships and Fundraising: “From the Ground Up will engage children in the natural environment from the very earliest age in primary schools across the UK. Leaving a legacy for the next 50 years for future generations to be able to get planting, nurturing, harvesting, and learning. Huge thanks to ICAP Charity Day for supporting this initiative!”
