Sutton Performing Arts student joins cast of hit nationwide musical!

Performing arts students join stellar nationwide tour of hit musical ‘The King and I’

Talented young British actors and singers from Stagecoach Performing Arts have joined the 2023 company of the critically acclaimed ‘The King And I’, currently on tour across the UK.

Featuring in roles as Royal Children, the youngsters join a world-class company of over 50 talented performers, led by West End stars Annalene Beechey and Darren Lee, and a full-scale orchestra. Four Stagecoach students from schools including Guildford North, Oxford Headington, Highgate, and Sutton, have joined the cast of the current sell-out UK tour.

This gloriously lavish production has been brought to the stage by an internationally renowned creative team under Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher (‘South Pacific’, ’My Fair Lady’, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’).

The young performers include nine-year-old Grace from Guildford North, eight-year-old Keiya from Oxford Headington, Ruby from Sutton, and 10-year-old Louis from Highgate. The students made the most of the nerve-wracking yet fun experience during auditions and rehearsals and let their skills and confidence shine through their learning at Stagecoach, giving them both the platform to go after their dreams and tread the boards in this nationwide spectacle.

Ruby, who attends Stagecoach Sutton said: “I absolutely love being part of The King and I show. It is really fun as every day I get to do 3 of my favourite things, acting, singing, and dancing. It doesn’t feel like work but just fun and I have made so many new friends. Stagecoach Sutton really helped me learn the skills I needed for a big performance and helped me with my confidence.”

The King and I is a sumptuous, timeless romance from the golden age of musicals, adored by the public and critics alike – and boasting one of the finest scores ever written, including Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You, and Shall We Dance. Set in 1860s Bangkok, The King and I tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.
