Advent: A Season of Reflection

Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas. In Christianity, the weeks of Advent and the four Sundays are used to prepare for the coming Christmas and to remember and celebrate its meaning. Christian communities celebrate the themes of hope, peace, joy and love all across the world. Being a time of meditation, study and prayer, Advent is typically also spent preparing for Christmas Day itself, decorating the house and gathering seasonal food and gifts. Other people also choose to celebrate Advent without the focus on the arrival of Jesus, instead seeing it as a fun way to count down the days until Christmas. Advent calendars and Advent candles are now hugely popular too. It can be a lovely time for making cherished family memories this festive season.
