Protect your loved ones this winter

Dr Oge Ilozue asks parents and guardians to encourage eligible family members to get their vaccinations this winter to avoid hospitalisation.

Winter is a time when many people look forward to spending more time with family and friends, especially over the festive and new year period. But flu and COVID-19 spread more easily as we are together indoors, so it is important we reduce the risk of serious illness by encouraging everyone who is eligible, including our elderly, or pregnant family members and those with pre-existing medical conditions who are especially at risk, to get vaccinated ahead of winter.

I’ve seen first-hand the effect of not being vaccinated, with families losing loved ones or spending weeks sitting by their bedside in hospital. Vaccination reduces the risk of this happening to your family.
