Scoring big for online safety: Premier League launches new resource for Safer Internet Day 2025

The Premier League has launched a new Safer Internet Day resource, available to teachers for free through its education programme Premier League Primary Stars, to mark Safer Internet Day 2025 on 11 February. The resource is designed to support Key Stage 2 pupils to recognise and avoid online scams and help them to navigate the digital world more safely.

Created in collaboration with the UK Safer Internet Centre, the free resource uses the power of football to make learning about online safety both engaging and accessible. This year’s Safer Internet Day theme, “Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online,” encourages pupils to think critically and make informed choices in an increasingly digital age.

Through fun, football-themed activities like “Phishing for Goals” and “Protect Your Profile,” pupils will learn to decode phishing attempts and identify online threats using the SCAM acronym: Sounds too good to be true, Contact you didn’t expect, Asking for personal information, Money or a trade is requested. Tailored for different age groups, the tasks are designed to support teachers to confidently address the complexities of digital safety.

Recognising the emotional impact online scams can have - such as feelings of stress, shame, and anxiety - the resource also aligns with Children’s Mental Health Week. By promoting resilience and teamwork, and peer support, it empowers children to help create a safer, more supportive environment.

Premier League Primary Stars has reached over 19,000 schools since its launch in 2017 and inspired more than 1.1 million pupils to learn. The new Safer Internet Day resource continues the programme’s mission to combine the power of football with education, equipping young people with vital life skills for the digital age.

The Premier League Primary Stars Safer Internet Day 2025 resources for Key Stage 2 pupils will be available to download from Friday 31 January.
