Schools encouraged to get active with parkrun primary initiative
Parkrun is already a favourite weekend activity for adults and young people across the UK, with participants meeting weekly to run 2km or 5km in their local parks.
Now, a new initiative called parkrun primary is encouraging primary schools to get involved too. Schools can sign up to be matched with a nearby junior parkrun, receive helpful resources, and take part in special assemblies during the school day.
With around 500 junior parkruns already running nationwide, children have the chance to join in 2km runs alongside friends and family. It aims to make exercise fun, build confidence, and foster community connections - all while encouraging healthy, active habits from a young age.
