Record-Breaking £2m up for grabs in UK's largest independent athlete support programme

The deadline for talented young athletes in Lincolnshire to apply for financial and training support from the GLL Sport Foundation is fast approaching.

Applications must be received by 20 February, to be considered for this year’s funding round.

Successful applicants will benefit from financial bursaries alongside free access to local Better leisure facilities, as well as physiotherapy, lifestyle mentoring, and mental health and wellbeing support, helping athletes manage the costs of training and competition during the next 12 months.

In 2025, 13 talented individuals were supported in Lincolnshire. To be eligible for a grant, adults and young athletes must reside or have a training base in Lincolnshire and must have the potential to succeed at National and International level.

Celebrating its 18th Year, the GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) Awards 2026 are now bigger and better than ever. A record-breaking £2million of bursaries and 'in kind' support for 2026 will enable talented young athletes to take part in the UK's largest scheme of its kind.

By April 2026, more than 35,000 athlete awards and almost £20million worth of support will have been distributed to aspiring sportsmen and women since the scheme's first awards in 2008.

The GSF has supported many successful athletes over the years, including Tom Daley, Ellie Simmonds, Anthony Joshua and Kimberley Woods. Past and present GSF athletes won 77 medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Commenting on the final call to apply for the GSF Awards 2026 in Lincolnshire, GLL Community Sports Manager Jamie Cheevers said: “The GSF Awards play a crucial role in helping athletes overcome barriers and continue to progress in their sport, while also motivating the next generation to get active and aim high. This is the final opportunity for eligible athletes to apply for funding in 2026, and we strongly encourage anyone with the talent and ambition to take this step and apply before applications close.”
