Great British Summer Savings Scheme to Cut the Cost of Family Days Out

Families across the UK will be able to enjoy cheaper days out this summer thanks to the launch of the Government's Great British Summer Savings scheme.

From 25 June to 1 September 2026, VAT on a range of family-friendly activities will be reduced from 20% to 5%, helping households save money during the school holidays while supporting attractions, hospitality venues and entertainment businesses.

The temporary VAT reduction will apply to:

• Children's meals in restaurants

• Children's and family tickets for cinemas, theatres, concerts, shows and exhibitions

• Admission tickets for attractions including theme parks, zoos, museums, soft play centres, adventure parks, wildlife parks, nature reserves and fairs

In an additional boost for families, children aged 5 to 15 in England will be able to travel free on local bus services throughout August.

The Government hopes the scheme will help families enjoy more affordable days out while increasing visitor numbers for businesses during the busy summer season.

Major attractions, leisure operators, cinemas and hospitality businesses across the UK are expected to pass on the VAT savings to customers, creating more opportunities for families to make memories together this summer.
