Message from Young Vets Club

Here's a curiosity: research on children and pets throws up something called the "pet effect paradox" - simply having an animal in the house doesn't reliably make kids happier or calmer. What helps is something more specific: how closely they engage with it. Feeding, observing, learning to read behaviour, noticing what a nervous animal needs to feel safe. A quality relationship goes beyond ownership - it becomes a hobby. And a hobby can become a passion, a career, a direction in life. In the age of doom-scrolling, young people need hobbies more than ever. This is why we created Young Vets Club.

Begin your creative journey at The Garage with a newly refreshed class programme

Norwich’s creative energy is set to surge this autumn as The Garage opens bookings for its 2026/27 Creative Class Programme, with performances taking place at Norwich's historic Halls, Epic Studios, The Garage itself, and site‑specific locations across the city. Whether you’re stepping into the arts for the first time or looking to deepen your practice, The Garage offers an inspiring, inclusive space to grow.

New Creative Director Mark Finbow brings two decades of professional experience across theatre and film to the programme. A LAMDA graduate and National Youth Theatre alumnus, Finbow has built a career championing emerging talent, founding East Anglian company The Keeper’s Daughter and creating opportunities for hundreds of young artists. His work has screened at the BFI and toured nationally, shaping a reputation for bold, accessible storytelling.

Finbow’s vision for The Garage is clear: a place where participants feel part of a vibrant creative community, not just a weekly class. The new programme strengthens progression routes for all ages and deepens connections between training and professional practice, ensuring every participant can develop skills, confidence and artistic ambition.

Classes begin Monday 7th Sept - Book Now

Could your parenting experience change another family's story?

Every parent knows there are moments when having someone by your side can make all the difference. A listening ear, a reassuring conversation or an extra pair of hands can help a family feel stronger and more confident.

At Home-Start Norfolk, our volunteers use their own parenting experience to support local families with children under five who are facing challenging times. Just a couple of hours each week can reduce isolation, build confidence and help give children the best start in life.

If you have a little time to spare, your parenting experience could be exactly what another family needs.

£1M raised so far for schools and parents - cashback for families with My School Fund

Since its launch, My School Fund has raised over £1 million for schools and families across the UK, as it continues to go from strength to strength. Created by ESPO in association with Sainsbury’s and Argos, the scheme is a simple, free way to boost budgets for everyone involved.

The concept is refreshingly straightforward; sign up at myschoolfund.org, link up to five cards and then shop as usual at Sainsbury’s or Argos. For every £1 spent, 2% is returned to the shopper, while 1% goes to the school, in the form of eGift rewards.

These funds help schools invest in everything from new resources to extracurricular activities, providing students with those extras that really make school feel special.

Lavendon Combined School says: "We have purchased £1000 worth of resources from Argos including water and sand play, role play, puzzles, games and sports equipment."

With no extra cost to families and real benefits for schools, My School Fund makes everyday spending go further. Whether it’s the weekly shop or a special treat, every purchase goes a long way.

And so, its beings a new school year!

Stepping up to a new academic year can be a challenge especially after the long summer break. There are new expectations: better reading and harder spellings. Some children might be struggling without knowing why and this can make a new school year doubly stressful. But it doesn’t have to be! If you are concerned about your child’s academic progress a Dyslexia screening test would be the first step. Book early to avoid disappointment via their website.

What’s New at Labyrinth Norwich This Autumn!

From this autumn, Labyrinth Norwich is taking an exciting step toward sustainability by introducing a luxury, eco-friendly Make-a-Bear range! Every plush friend in the new collection is crafted from 100% recycled materials, from the super-soft fabrics right down to the stuffing, giving children a magical bear-making experience that’s kinder to the planet.
