Children ‘paws’ to learn at recent educational dog shows

Around 500 school children from nine different schools across the borough recently took part in educational shows promoting responsible dog ownership and how to stay safe around dogs – with Gilly the poodle being the star of the show!

Organised by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council in partnership with the Dogs Trust, children in primary five and six were encouraged to think about the time and care that a dog needs on a daily basis. They also got to hear some case studies about rescue dogs before getting some all important freebies!

The highlight of the show was of course Gilly who brought plenty of fun to the day before pupils gave her a pat under close supervision.

These shows are an annual affair and the schools always enjoy the experience! This year’s schools were: Edenderry Primary School, Kings Park Primary School, Waringstown Primary School, Ballydown Primary School, Abercorn Primary School, Bridge Integrated Primary School, St Malachy’s Primary School, St Catherine’s Primary School and Hamiltonsbawn Primary School.
