Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Kim Ashton presented a cheque for £1,644.50 to the Air Ambulance NI following the success of two women’s events organised by the Council in aid of the charity.
The events, which were held to recognise this year’s International Women’s Day, took place at Dungannon and Magherafelt in March. Over 171 women from across the district attended the events with all proceeds going to the Air Ambulance NI.
Guest speakers included Karen Farquhar, Billy Dixon, Hannah Shields and Dr Janet Gray, MBE and the Hub Cookstown’s Carol Doey compered both events.
Presenting the cheque, Chair, Councillor Kim Ashton said, “The two International Women's Day events were a great success. I want to sincerely thank everyone who came along and supported such a worthy cause. Your generosity enabled us to raise such an impressive amount for such an important and life-saving charity servicing the whole of Northern Ireland. I wish to congratulate the Air Ambulance NI on the phenomenal work they do every day and I hope this donation will go some way in helping them to deliver this remarkable and inspirational service.”
Kerry Anderson from Air Ambulance NI added, “On behalf of Air Ambulance NI I would like to thank everyone at Mid Ulster Council for their support and to all who supported and attended the events during International Women’s week. The Helicopter Emergency Medical Service is tasked on average every single day and is making a valuable difference to local lives. As we need to raise £2m each year, fundraising support is crucial and we are very grateful for your help.”
