Autumn gets underway in city with return of seasonal favourite Autumn Fair in Botanic Gardens

Autumn gets underway in the city with the return of the Autumn Fair in Belfast’s beautiful Botanic Gardens on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September - with fun-filled activities for all ages to enjoy.

Celebrate a weekend of flowers, food and free family fun as the seasonal favourite takes place from 12.30pm to 6pm each day. Visit one of the largest flower shows in Northern Ireland and be amazed at the award-winning blooms on display, enormous harvest vegetables and many other wonders from community gardens, local allotments, greenhouses and beehives in the city. Enjoy browsing the variety of stalls around the park selling hot food, sweet treats, homemade produce and preserves, plants, homemade crafts and more.

Some fantastic local musicians and singers will be performing over the weekend with a mix of contemporary and old-time favourites to get your toes tapping and the Grand Finale Band Concert takes place on Sunday (2pm-5pm) – marking the end of our popular Music in the Parks programme.

New to this year’s event is the Autumn Fair Trail. Have fun learning a little more about Botanic Gardens and discover new areas off the beaten track, solve the clues and meet some interesting characters along the way.

Younger visitors will also be spoilt for choice with all the fun of the fair from carnival games, safari train rides, workshops, mini explorers sensory play and crazy golf to amazing magic shows, captivating street performers and autumn arts and crafts.

Launching the event at Botanic Gardens, Lord Mayor Councillor Deirdre Hargey, said: “Our Autumn Fair is one of the highlights of the season as we celebrate the best that nature has produced with our rich offering of flowers and plants grown in our many wonderful local community gardens across the city. We want everyone, both young and old, to come along and enjoy all the fun free activities running over the weekend in Botanic Gardens, our wide variety of stalls and live music from the marquee and around the park as well as the Grand Finale Band Concert.

“New to the event this year is our Autumn Fair Trail for families to explore and visitors to Botanic Gardens can also enjoy a tour of our newly refurbished Tropical Ravine which opened earlier this year too!”
