Tickets for this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On, which takes place on Saturday 17 November, will be released this coming Monday (5 November).
Speaking about this year’s entertainment programme, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Hargey, said:
“I’m looking forward to being joined by children’s television favourites Marshall and Skye from ‘Paw Patrol’, as well as Fireman Sam and Norman Price, Andy Day and the fabulous choir of Bunscoil Phobal Feirste!
“It’s a great line-up of family entertainment, for the young and the young at heart, and it promises to be a great night for everyone to enjoy the official start to Christmas.”
Stephen Clements and Cate Conway from Q Radio, will act as compere on the evening. Orla Ross, Agency Sales Director with the station, said:
“Q Radio are thrilled to help kick off Christmas 2018 with Belfast City Council’s Christmas Lights Switch-On. Packed with family fun and great entertainment our presenters are looking forward to launching the Christmas celebrations in Belfast.”
Séamus Ó Tuama, Principal of Bunscoil Phobal Feirste, who were personally selected by the Lord Mayor to perform at the event, added:
“Táimid ag dúil go mór le bheith mar chuid den ócáid phléisiúrtha seo i lár na cathrach s’againn chun tús séasúr na Nollag a chéiliúradh! We are very excited about being part of this enjoyable event in our City Centre and to help officially launch the Christmas Season!
Tickets, limited to six per booking, will be released at 9am this coming Monday (5 November) and can be sourced online at www.visitbelfast.com. You must click through to download the ticket as the email confirmation will not suffice. Accessible viewing for the event can be booked call (028) 9024 6609 on Monday 5 November; these are limited to two per booking due to restricted capacity. Terms and conditions apply.
The event will start at 6.30pm, and last for around an hour. There will be road closures in effect in the city centre from earlier in the afternoon so please allow extra time for your journey.
The annual Belfast Christmas Market will also open in the City Hall grounds on Saturday 17 November, starting at 12 noon. The Market will continue until 6pm on Saturday 22 December
Santa’s post box will once again be at his grotto within the Market, until Sunday 16 December, for children to post letters to the North Pole, with a reply for those who add a return address.
