New Chairperson appointed to the Board of the Education Authority

Mr Barry Mulholland has recently taken up post of Chairperson to the Board of the Education Authority (EA) following a successful public appointments competition.

Mr Mulholland was most recently the Chief Executive of the Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC). He has also has served as Chief Administrative Officer in the Belfast Education and Library Board and as Chief Executive of the Western Education and Library Board. He later assumed the role of a Regional Managing Director in the Education Authority when it came into operation in 2015 where he had operational responsibility for the Western and North Eastern Areas.  

Welcoming the appointment, Sara Long, EA Chief Executive said: 

“I am delighted to welcome Mr Mulholland back to the EA in this important role of Chairperson of our Board. I look forward to working with Mr Mulholland on the important issues, challenges and opportunities that face the organisation.” 

The EA Chairperson has a pivotal role in ensuring EA’s procedures and actions support the Department of Education’s wider strategic priorities, and that EA’s affairs are managed and conducted effectively. 

 Barry Mulholland, EA Chairperson said: 

“I feel very privileged in taking up the role of Chairperson of the Education Authority. I’m looking forward to working with Sara, the Corporate Leadership team, authority staff and Board members in our support of principals in addressing the many challenges faced by schools and pupils. There’s no doubt a sound foundation has already been established within the EA and I’m excited by the opportunity for us all to continue to build on this”.
