Highfields School is an independent co-educational prep school for girls and boys aged 2 to 11, based in the historical market town of Newark, Nottinghamshire.
There is a strong emphasis on academic achievement. Last year’s ISI inspection found “most children regularly achieve well above national average”. There is a high pass rate at 11+ and for independent senior schools, with many pupils being awarded scholarships across a range of disciplines – not just academic but music, sport and art.
The school offers an enhanced curriculum which includes learning beyond the classroom. Music is taught by specialist teachers including a large number of peripatetic teachers who teach both instrumental and singing. There are many opportunities for children to join in band, orchestra, a number of ensembles and two choirs.
Sport features strongly in the weekly calendar. All children take part in team and individual sports and are encouraged to try new experiences, including an extended sports programme which this year includes table tennis, sailing, golf, trampolining and kayaking.
With over 14 acres of parkland, Forest School is offered to all Kindergarten and Pre-Prep children, taking advantage of the natural environment.
