PAC brings magic of free live theatre to families in lockdown
Families can enjoy the magic of live theatre for free from the safety of their own homes thanks to the next of online streaming event from Pocklington Arts Centre (PAC) this February half term.
Once again families who access regional food banks will be the very first to be offered the chance to exclusively watch The Wizard of Castle Magic days before it premieres on PAC’s YouTube channel on Thursday 18 February, at 2.30pm for everyone to enjoy.
The Wizard of Castle Magic is the second show created and performed by renowned Hull based Magic Carpet Theatre, and filmed live at PAC behind closed doors by local production company Digifish, in Autumn 2020.
The show is free to watch, but if audiences enjoy it, there will be an option to make a donation, which will go directly to supporting PAC at this challenging time.
PAC’s first online family theatre show, Magic Circus, streamed to over 1,600 people during the Christmas and New Year period.
The project, which includes plans for online workshops, has been made possible thanks to a grant of £4,100 from East Yorkshire’s I am Fund, via the HEY Smile Foundation.
PAC Director Janet Farmer said: “We are delighted to present our next online family theatre show to our audiences.
“We have really missed being able to offer our family theatre programme, which has earned a national reputation for high quality, engaging, diverse children’s theatre and workshops.
“So, to be able to offer our younger audiences and their families the chance to experience all the magic and excitement of live theatre at home is just fantastic.
“The funding we have secured for the project will enable us to develop an enhanced online presence, leading to sustained arts engagement from younger generations during the pandemic and beyond.
“Once again we would like to say thank you to the ‘I am Fund’ and the HEY Smile Foundation for making this possible. “
Magic Carpet Theatre are firm PAC favourites, renowned for their circus skills, magic and audience participation, and have staged numerous sold-out events at the venue in recent years.
Based on the traditional Sorcerer’s Apprentice tale The Wizard of Castle Magic is guaranteed to enchant audiences aged 3-11 and their families with a script packed full of comedy, illusion, and special theatrical effects.
It is Magic Carpet's brand new version of their, very popular, company-devised production, which originally played in schools, arts venues, and at Edinburgh Festival.
The Wizard of Castle Magic will be available to stream via YouTube from 2.30pm on Thursday 18 February. The show will be available to view for 14 days until Thursday 4 March.
