Fill up your holidays with challenges and adventures at National Trust places in Yorkshire.
Head to Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens, just outside York, for nature adventures. There are themed activities on different days throughout August to find out what lives in a tree, why do bees buzz as well as a butterfly spotting challenge.
In the play area, unleash your wild ones on the seven-metre-high pyramid tower and let them set sail on the ship or let them play Wendy house. There are swings to get you off the ground and a den building zone close by. For older children the cantilever swing and clamber stack are a popular choice to test adventurous spirits.
Bring a picnic and spend a full day running, jumping and exploring at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Ripon. Trees are the theme of the day, and you can spend hours exploring ancient trees, fluffy trees, big and small trees!
Pick up a find the faces trail at the admission point and see how many faces you can find hidden the trees – they’re everywhere when you start to take a closer look.
folklore will be on show at Nunnington Hall, Helmsley, focusing on the Kirkdale Caves and the Nunnington Dragon from local folklore. Kids can add scales on to the Nunnington Dragon as it coils around the attic exhibition space and learn about the legendary tales passed on generation to generation. Families can also discover the stories of the Kirkdale Caves. The fossils found there were from creatures great and small, creatures that lived here during the Ice Age, including mammoths, hyenas, and giant deer.
There’s also a summer of sports to enjoy at Ormesby Hall over the holidays with activities for all skills, including basketball, football, archery, tennis and cricket. There’s also a mini golf course for the whole family to tackle.
