A First-class Musical Production at Harrogate School

Dozens of talented school children from a leading Harrogate school took part in the musical ‘Annie’ this week.

Pupils from Harrogate Ladies’ College took to the boards in the school’s first major production since they performed Fantastic Mr Fox last year.

More than 50 pupils were on stage along with musicians in the band. Pupils in the stage crew also performed key backstage roles in lighting, costume, hair and make-up and set production.

Head of Drama at the school Lucy Mallon said ‘Annie’ had been chosen because it was such an uplifting story; “It’s classic story with wonderful songs to perform and everyone was so excited to be part of it – the pupils have really been at the heart of the whole production and have been a joy to work with.”

“It was a very professional production and my first major drama project at school since taking over as Head of Drama in September.

“We are blessed with huge natural talent among our singers, dancers, and musicians and this was a great opportunity to harness that talent, enjoy the absolute thrill of live performances and showcase our incredible students to families and friends. It was an absolute triumph in every sense.” she added.

Principal, Sylvia Brett said the production shone a beacon of light on the talent within the school community; “It really was a first-class performance from every single member of the cast and a delight to watch. There is so much hard work that goes in to creating a production of this calibre and the enthusiasm and sense of joy from the pupils was infectious. I was immensely proud, and also thrilled to see the pupils working together, sharing and caring for each other as a team, and relishing that sense of achievement and confidence in their ability.”
